Manners and Etiquette Tips

My friend has a habit of being late. I will soon be hosting a special dinner gathering for which she is invited. How much holding time is appropriate if she is late?
Being prompt always shows good manners, tardiness is rude. But for those who are late a good host/hostess will hold dinner no longer than 10 minutes as a consideration to the other guests. Late comers should start their meal with the course currently being served.

Is an e-mail RSVP acceptable?
You may respond to an invitation the same way you received the invitation. For example, if you received an invitation by e-mail, go ahead and respond by e-mail. If you received an invitation via telephone message respond with a phone call. Invitations received in the mail are always formally responded to by mail.

How much of a tip should a pizza delivery person receive?
Pay 10% of the bill but no less than $2.00.

May I hand out my business card to everyone attending a networking event?
Business cards should be given out discretely and only to those who ask for one. Some net working events may have a table set up for everyone to place a small stack of their cards allowing attendees to peruse them. Never scatter your cards about or hand them out indiscriminately.

How do I handle a dinner gathering where something I do not like to eat is being served?
When the food is passed simply say “no thank you”. Never reveal why you don’t like it or cannot eat it. If the food is pre-plated, eat what you can and don’t make a fuss. Always and graciously compliment the host/hostess.
